Planters - Working with a Local Community
These planters were a final pitch to a local community that has a strong appreciation for art and design that also wants to beautify and bring some fresh greenery into town. They are fully funding it themselves, so being mindful of materials and cost of production is a must. These planters are designed to endure the elements of upstate New York, whether that’s strong winds that try to tip them over, or road salt that is known to be corrosive. These are durable and eye catching that would make any member of the community proud.
Skills Necessary:
Scale model making, air brushing, working with high density foam, shop skills, sketching, marker rendering, trompe l’oeil (make the models as realistic as possible to give them the best idea of how it would look in reality)
Working directly with a client, pitching ideas, research ideal materials and CMF
Considerations for the Project:
·Need to create planters to beautify a local town. Their current planters are an eye sore and are made up of cheap plastic that cracks and degrades with road salt
·Keep costs down since it is community funded - need to use materials that will last a long time, but also not cost a fortune
·Offer a variety of options of form and material to help them choose what they like best. They only asked for 2 models to be pitched, but I got very into the project and ended up making 5 models to show even more enthusiasm to this excited group of clients
